The Day Before
July 4th is a big day in Port Orford, packed with events starting at 7am and culminating in fireworks at Battle Rock.
I take time to plan our top 10 events to participate in or watch, all of which we will be walking to and from. The map below indicates where our “home” is, Camp Blanco RV Park, the parade route on Highway 101, and the venues for all the activities.
This year’s theme is “Our Fishing Heritage.”
Today we check out the Quilt Show in the Community Building because it is open from noon to 4pm. I don’t know what to expect. And all I can say is, “WOW!”
Jeff notices a soft blue quilt with sheep. But, not just generic sheep…
These guys are from the British stop-motion animated television series, Shaun the Sheep.
My grandson, Oliver, loves watching Shaun the Sheep. He calls Shaun “Bip”, and one morning when I was visiting overnight, he woke up and called for Mom, then Dad, and finally, Bip!
Next, we vote for our favorite quilt in the quilt challenge. Each entry had to use the same 5 different fabrics in the design. Our ballot is the size of a postage stamp.
Before leaving I learn about the memorial quilt displays in memory of quilters who passed away this year.
And finally, I capture one last quilt that catches my eye as I leave.
They all are truly beautiful, colorful, and works of art!
